The Axe Has Fallen

According to this AP Story that appeared on the San Francisco Chronicle website, Oakland Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin has been fired for cause. Cause he won't suck up to Al Davis is my guess. By firing Kiffen for cause, the Raiders can refuse to pay him the balance owed under his employment contract.

This will likely play out further as I'm sure Kiffin will sue to get the remaining money he feels is owed him under the contract. Or maybe he will be so happy to get on with his life he will just move on.

We'll see.

Who Won The Debate?

The first debate between Senators Obama & McCain was held last night. Somehow, the idea seems to become prevelant that instead of the debate being a forum for each to postulate his ideas and convictions, it is instead a contest to be won or lost.

I don't agree with that. The debate should be a forum where each is asked the same question, given a chance to make his point uninterrupted (Senator Obama, if that word is new to you, have an aide explain it) and if necessary, allow each a chance to rebut their opponent's statement.

As for the winner of last night's debate....well, I think Senator McCain held his composure much better, provided clear and concise answers, and came out looking better than Senator Obama. From what I've seen on TV, CNN disagrees with me, Fox news agrees with me. So all is normal in our world.

Buddy, Can You Spare $4635?

If you are a working American, the folks at Blogging Stocks have calculated your share of the bailout plan at $4635. Not too bad, huh? After all, it's a small price to pay to keep Wall St afloat, isn't it?

At the bottom of their post on the subject, the question "So which would you prefer, a recession or a bailout?" is asked. I'm tired of my tax dollars being used to bailout multi-millionaires. Bring on the recession, I'll make my own way through it.

Memory Lane?

The clock is ticking for the Oakland Raider's head coach Lane Kiffin, according to news reports. Rumors circulating for the past two weeks have had him being fired at any time. I thought he would have been fired after the Raider's loss to the Buffalo Bills this past Sunday, given the way he mismanaged the clock at the end of the game. So far, it looks as if he's keeping his job. While no one knows the inner workings of Al Davis' brain (probably a good thing), my guess is Davis will fire Kiffin after this Sunday's game, win or lose. This is the final game before the Raider's bye week, and the new coach will have 2 weeks to prepare and get his system in place.

Perhaps Kiffin should check out this blog about upselling at the US Postal Service before he starts sending out his resumes.

What's It Take?

What does it take to get some rain? In California, drought conditions persist. The news programs show rain and flooding in some areas of the country. Around here, there has been no appreciable rain since February. We have a few manditory water restrictions, and many more voluntary ones. The yard is dry, the lawns long dead. Certain areas of the yard, the soil is developing large cracks due to being so dry. We're still another month from the beginning of the "rain year", that is when they reset the rain amount to zero and start counting all over. The main rains don't usually come until later in the year. Hopefully they'll come early this year.
