Overpenetration & The Box of Truth

The title sounds sexy, doesn't it? But it's not about sex, sorry. If you have a handgun for self defense, or have thought about getting one, you've probably heard many times "Be careful with those (insert caliber here) Magnums, they'll shoot through the wall, across the street, go through your neighbors house and cause a massacre at the schoolyard!" There are also those who rationalize that heavy clothing will clog the hollow point on bullets causing a failure of expansion. What's the truth?
